Seven Directions Practice® enhances our capacity for critical inquiry and spiritual awareness. It develops skills and capacity for working in the agitation at the borders of relationships. The Practice uses tension as a creative and generative energy to explore possibilities for our future. It offers a way to align our movement through life with the Earth as a way to develop internal strength.

The foundation of the Practice is an earth centered contemplative practice built on three essential pillars - Breath, Non Comparative Listening and Decentralizing Self. This practice requires rigor and constancy to bring the mind, heart and spirit into concert in our lives.

Up, Down and In are the first three directions and call us to both critical inquiry and spiritual awareness in order to identify our core beliefs and values. This core consistently infuses all of our actions. The first three directions help us discern whether this core is nourishing us and expanding our wellspring of internal strength, vision and guidance.

The four cardinal directions (East, South, West, North) are points of reference that guide activity in alignment with the core of integrity. They bring awareness and a critical lens to daily work. The cross quarter directions or points between the cardinal directions help us track our life, our activity and our thinking in relationship with the cycles of the Earth.

Kaylynn TwoTrees (Iyeska) has developed Seven Directions Practices over the past 30 years with the input and support of Native American, African, Maori and European elders.  She brings her initiations and shamanic training as well as her experience as an indigenous scholar to the continued development of the Practice.
